STVFD units were dispatched for a commercial structure fire at 845 Mallside Forest Court Apartments. Initial callers reported smoke coming from an apartment which was followed up by a notification from an alarm company of a sprinkler flow alarm at the apartment complex. E84 and TO88 arrived with nothing showing and proceeded to investigate. E84(Bravo)Capt. Mick Pitt reported a kitchen fire in an apartment that was mostly extinguished by the sprinkler system. Crews from TO88 set up ventilation while the crew from E82 checked for extension and E121 checked on the welfare of the occupant. After salvage and overhaul all units were placed in service and the scene was turned over to ACFR fire prevention officers.

The sprinkler systems in both the Mallside Forest Court and Rio Hill Apartment complexes have saved many tragedies over the past years by extinguishing kitchen fires. Had these systems not been in place there would certainly have been far greater fire damage and risk to the lives of the apartment building occupants.
