STVFD E82 assisted on a house fire in Forest Lakes Sunday morning. Hollymead E121 and Earlysville E41 were toned for a reduced structure fire with occupants reporting the smell of insulation burning in their residence. A second 911 call from the residents reported they now had visible smoke in their home. E121 upgraded the call to a residential structure fire adding E82 and E2 (Charlottesville FD). Upon arrival E121 found smoke in the structure and pulled a line to the front door. E41 prepared to lay out from E121 to a nearby hydrant. A fire was located and extinguished in the crawl space of the structure by E121 crew. E41 crew checked for extension and set up ventilation. E82 crew helped with overhaul of the crawl space. E2 was placed in service prior to arrival. The cause of the fire was a humidifier plugged into a light fixture in the crawl space. The light fixture caught fire igniting a large porch umbrella and some insulation.

As we have learned in our annual Walker Sisk truck company operations class, "the fire is always in the basement until you prove otherwise!"
