C Crew's weekend shift ends in a flurry
January 20, 2008
C Crew spent most of the weekend taking it easy with just a few medical calls for the first 36 hours. But as the temperature dropped the calls picked up. Around 1230 hours on Sunday the tones dropped for a reduced structure at Vocelli's pizza in the Woodbrook Shopping Center. The fire in the HVAC disconnect was held in place by E85 and TO88 with E2 standing by on scene.
Later in the day Seminole got "doubled up" before C Crew's shift would end. At 1536 hours TO88 was assigned with E6 for a smoke alarm at 325 Farmington Drive. Moments after units marked up ECC advised the occupants had called in reporting smoke coming around a window in a second floor bedroom. The box was filled adding E85 to the response along with engines from Crozet and Monticello. TO88's crew assisted E6 extinguishing a small fire in the bedroom window frame. Then overhauled the area and checked for extension. E85 and E111 completed a split lay to set up water supply for E6 and E85's crew secured utilities while E111's crew was RIT. E56, E58, E2 and HM 47 staged and were placed in service after the fire was extinguished A convex makeup mirror just inside the window likely started the fire.
At 1603 hrs. STVFD was called to respond for a structure fire at 1603 Rio Hill Drive. The occupant reported a oven fire that was not contained. E82 responded and was joined by E121 and E58. Crews quickly contained the oven fire and units were back in service within 30 minutes.
