Engine 81 was second due on a reported structure fire on Arbor Terrace in the Forest Lakes Subdivision. E111 had transferred to Station 12 for training and was covering E121 calls when the call came in. Car 80 (Chief 80), EMS 11, and E111 arrived on the scene with nothing showing from side Alpha of a two story townhouse, however alarm bells were sounding. As E111's crew made the front door to investigate they were met by the occupant and had medium to heavy smoke inside the townhouse toward the rear of the structure. A 1 3/4" line was pulled and the second due engine was assigned water supply. E111's crew found a sofa fire toward side Charlie being held in check by the residential sprinkler system. They removed the sofa from through the adjacent back door as E81 was laying 4" supply to E111. Ventilation was set up on side Alpha and the structure checked for extension, which turned up clear. E111's crew did find the occupants pet cat and removed it to the safety of the owner. E81 and E41 crews assisted with ventilation. Companies took up and were in service in just over one hour.
This is another fire that was all but extinguished with a residential sprinkler system. Had this structure been unprotected the outcome would have been much worse.
