On May 26, 2008 E Crew pulled a 24 hour shift to cover the 2008 Memorial Day holiday. Most of the day was spent out training in the first due but as the day wore on the crew wanted a little rest and relaxation. After a dip in the training dump tank E crew members set up a nice picnic feast outside so they could enjoy the wonderful weather. However, after the great meal a serious MVC on Rt. 29 would keep the crew busy. At 1943 hours STVFD E81, E85 and Car 89 responded along with units from CARS for a reported vehicle collision with entrapment in front of McDonald's on Rt. 29 in the northbound lanes. After a quick door pop the entrapped occupant of the blue Hyundai was removed and immediately transported to the UVA ED. Two occupants from the black Ford Explorer were transported to the UVA ED as well.
After the crews put the trucks back in service at the station and began to settle in for the remainder of the holiday the tones dropped again for a pedestrian struck on Rt. 29 in front of McDonald's. E81 responded and found a patient in the median and the hit and run vehicle nowhere to be found. Crew's packaged the patient and CARS transported to the UVA ED.
