Severe storms keep Seminole crews busy for most of the evening
June 4, 2008
A line of very severe thunderstorms with high winds came through the
area and resulted in STVFD units answering 14 calls for service in
less than 3 hours Wednesday evening. Units include: Engine 81, Tower 88,
Engine 85, Engine 82, Utility 86, Car 82, Car 81. Calls included a
structure fire, tree into a structure, many trees across the roadway,
power lines down, trees into power lines, and a public service call.
Notably, access to a structure fire to the north was significantly
affected by roads impassable due to trees and power lines across
Seminole Trail, Rio Mills Rd., and Earlysville Rd - found by multiple
companies while responding. Engine 81 was finally able to cross into
the north side after a Seminole crew in Utility 86 was able to clear
the trees from Seminole Trail.
The night was not over for Engine 81, which ran one more late night
EMS call, then filled a station transfer to Charlottesville Fire
Station 10 as the city filled a 6 engine + 1 truck structure fire box.
