STVFD Day Crew makes two great stops as cold snap grips the area

Over the past week Central Virginia has been in the grips of a significant cold snap. Seminole Trail units were dispatched to 55 incidents during the period from Jan. 15th to Jan. 21st. 15 of those calls occurred on Sat. Jan 17th while E Crew was on duty. They ran a total of 23 calls on their weekend shift including a working fire on Cleveland Ave. in the City of Charlottesville.

STVFD crews responded to a residential structure fire on Northfield Road. Upon arrival E81 reported smoke showing from side charlie of a carport area. A fire involving a storage room had spread to the cockloft above the carport. Units were able to quickly extinguish the fire using CAFS.

STVFD crews responded to the report of a basement apartment fire in a residence on Chapel Hill Road. TO88 arrived with E2 just behind them. TO88's crew reported an active fire in the basement and pulled a 2" attack line to the basement. E2 remained outside during the attack. Interior crews were able to open up windows for ventilation after a quick knock down. E121 checked for extension and controlled utilities. E81 assisted with vent fans and lighting. The FM reported an unattended candle as the cause for the fire.
