While covering Station 10 for CFD, who was tied up on a hazmat call, E81 was called for a commercial structure fire at an apartment complex on Arlington Blvd along with E85 and units from the city. CARS Car 132 was the first to arrive and reported heavy smoke coming from the Charlie side of the apartment building. Engine 81 arrived shortly thereafter, laid 4” hose from the apartment complex driveway, pulled to the Charlie side of the parking lot and began pulling lines and getting set to make entry. Meanwhile, E6 arrived on the scene and began setting up water supply at a hydrant just uphill from the fire building with the help of an off-duty city firefighter and a member from Station 8. Engine 81's crew made entry with a 2" attack line and got a quick knock on the kitchen fire, then began ventilation. Two occupants had to be escorted out of their apartments, which were above the fire floor. No injuries were reported. It was a great, quick response from everyone and the fire was rapidly controlled – kudos to the crews on scene.
