After an initial dispatch of smoke in the structure, ECC upgraded the response to a structure fire at a Peyton Drive apartment building. E81 arrived first, closely followed by TO88 to find a three story apartment building with nothing showing. Crews were met on the third floor landing by maintenance workers who advised there was fire in the kitchen. E81's crew made entry into the apartment with heavy smoke showing at the door. They found the kitchen cabinets around the stove on fire and made a quick knock on the fire and completed a primary search. Other units assisted with ventilation of the apartment. The fire did not extend beyond the kitchen cabinets and units remained for overhaul.
