STVFD and Hollymead units(E121,E81,TO88) had just cleared up from a smoke in the structure call on Hearthglow Lane when they were dispatched to a reported house fire just off Earlysville Road. The Tower had just marked back in quarters so that crew moved to E82 and responded. E81 and E121 were on the air and responded immediately to the call. E81 arrived first reporting heavy smoke showing from the rear of the two story home. E82 and E121 arrived moments later. E82 pulled a RIT line as E81 prepared to enter the structure. E121 pulled a back up line to the side of the structure. E81 was met with very high heat and heavy smoke conditions inside. They made a good initial knockdown in the kitchen area but were unable to get to the fully involved great room at the rear of the structure. E121 crew attacked the great room fire from the garage access after E81 pulled out. They achieved a successful knockdown after encountering high heat conditions as well. A Seminole Trail crew was then sent to the second floor to knock down fire that had extended from the great room and found multiple rooms involved and high heat. When Chief 83 advised fire was now venting from the roof area, crews were pulled from the structure and defensive operations ensued as a second alarm was called. Exterior operations were carried out with a 3" blizfire line along with a 2" and 1 3/4" hand lines flowing CAFS. Units remained on scene for over 4 hours.
A very successful water supply was set up using 4 tankers and two 3000 gallon dump tanks. Once established, supply was maintained throughout incident flowing over 8000 gallons of water and 19 gallons of foam.
